The "Norvegia-build" So, me and Supershot played last night, we finally got our display of Revolution, and had our first night with new rules. Toying around with ideas between games gave us a fleet that looked rather cheesy, and after a quick test was dubbed the "Norvegia-build" (Norvegia is a type of white cheese her in Norway) This build will not be hindered much from the new events, and has abillities that negates negative treasures, it's fast, and in compliance with the "no dupes." The list: Neptunes Hoard 12p Blackheart 5p Explorer 1p Oarsman x2 2p Total 20p Raven 10p "Don" Pedro Gilbert 5p Helmsman 2p Explorer 1p Oarsman 1p Total 19p Rover 2p Hag of Tortuga 0p Total 2p Event: Becalmed 4p 1 or 2 pirate forts 0p Total 4p ______________________ Sum 45p The breakdown of the build: Neptunes Hoard and "Don" Pedro both has the ability to trade away treasure before loading, this gives the "N-B" ("Norveiga-build") the advantage of removing unwanted treasures, this is crucial as the "N-B" wins on taking 2 wildislands. The new rules states that you have to have 16 gold to win, and both player add 15 gold each. This gives you an average of 7.something gold per wildisland, thus if your lucky (OR have the ability to change treasures...) you'll have a fair chance of winning if you clear out 2 wildislands. If you play with 7x2goldcoins and 1x1gold, you can maximise the chance of hitting an average of 8 gold per island. Both crucial ships in the "N-B" plays with oarsman, thus they negate the Becalmed-event (As I read the card, you get a full moveaction as long as you have the abillity to move as a delerict) and as long as your not completly in the boonies (more than 3L away from the nearest wildisland) neither ship will be undocked in the opponets turn, thus negating the Mermaids- and Foul winds-events. So, how does this work? Turn 1: Play Becalmed on the opponent in the most damaging way. Neptunes Hoard speed to the nearest island with a cool S+L+S+L after eating an oarsman(thus having a nice chance of reaching it as it over 3L), drops the Blackheart, explores, (trades 1 coin if necessesary) and loads 4 treasure. Raven moves a even more cool S+S+S+S+S+S+S+S (8S ) after eating an oarsman and should reach an second island or at least be in reach of the second island on turn 2 via an dock on the first wildisland Rover stays put as long as the treasures on the first island is 8 goldpoints or more. Turn 2: Neptunes Hoard makes "the switch" unloading the explorer and loading Blackheart (the legality of this is discussed but we haven't seen any specific ruling yet, please correct me if I'm wrong), eats the second oarsman and speeds home, unloading treasure. If the Raven didn't reach the second island in the first turn it does now, and explores the island, switching 1 treasure if necessary (Note, the new treasure will be loaded on the Raven) Build a fort on wildisland 2, if you have 8 goldpoints or more in the fort you should now have 16 gold, and be the winner. Considerations: If you don't reach the 2nd wildisland on the first turn (unlikely) AND have to trade treasure with "Don" Gilbert, you have to take the treasure on the Raven, I'm a litte unsure if you could unload it at once, or if you have to wait until the next turn. If your unlucky and don't score 8 goldpoints on island 1 you use the Rover to explore a third island, and build a second fort. "The switch" is discussed, but in my opinion inside of the rules. If proven illegal, you can take one oarsman from the Neptunes Hoard and add an explorer on the Rover, and use it to explore a third island as stated above. As you can't be sure of getting enough gold (and you can't split it * ) this will slow you down, but hopefully your Becalmed has given you enough time. The Neptunes Hoard could be played as a gunship in a clinch, moving the helmsman and possibly the Hag over so that the two other ships could search for gold. Playing devils advocate: Yes, this puts all eggs in one basket, and you'll have to be careful about island placement (getting your homeisland within 3L is crucial) You're completly open to multiaction gunships, but hopefully your speed, and the fact that the opponent should be nervous about you playing Mermaids, gives you an advantage. Thus ends the saga about the "Norvegia-build", real cheese for real men Discuss. __________________ Thomas Det skal en kugle til en trønder
