1. Discuss the qualitative changes in the competitive environment of industrial companies during the last 15-20 years. How should these changes be reflected in the development of information technology applications in the companies. Why? (Try to be brief and to the point.)

2. Define the terms "operative process", "tactical process', and "strategic process' defined in the course material. Explain the contents of these processes (i) for a mass producer of a consumer product (ii) a small-batch producer of a complex customized product. (You can use real companies as examples of (i) and (ii), or invent the examples if you prefer.)

3. Define the term "CIM architecture". What is the role of the architecture in the realization of a CIM system? What constituent parts are involved in the architecture? What activities are required to realize a CIM architecture for a company?

4. Discuss the issues of cost management from the CIM system viewpoint. What are the deficiencies of traditional cost models? How should these be improved for CIM?

5. Describe stages and tasks of innovative vs. routine design processes. Discuss the prime issues of the processes from CIM integration viewpoint. What information technology tools are presently available to support these processes? What are the deficiencies of the state of the art?
